Lazy Summer Governance Recap [July 2026]

Hey all, your friendly green blob back again, this time with a heavier wrap-up than usual.

July was, without question, the most consequential month in the Lazy Summer DAO’s history. On July 6, two Ethereum USDC vaults (Lower Risk and Higher Risk) were exploited. In the weeks that followed, BA Labs published a risk-curator retrospective and stepped down as risk curator, Summer Labs began winding down, and governance pivoted almost entirely away from growth and optimization toward incident response, fund recovery, and an orderly move to a withdrawal-only protocol.

As a result, this is the last monthly governance recap for now. It covers July and the first week of August, and the DAO will resume regular recaps once the community has settled the protocol’s long-term direction (see The Path Forward below).

Below is the full recap.

Let’s start with the July overview of the forum metrics:

A total of 52 posts were recorded in July, up sharply from June, reflecting intense community engagement around the incident and the transition.

The DAO/MAU ratio averaged 31.3%, increasing by ~7 percentage points from the previous month.

DAO Metrics

Parameter June July Trend
Delegates 58 59
SUMR Delegated 124.24M 118.12M
DAO Treasury (now including veAERO, PoL, and DRD V2) $334,720 $133,433
SUMR Holders 6,277 6,265

Delegate count increased by 1 to 59, while delegated SUMR decreased by 6.12M. The Lazy Summer DAO treasury decreased by $201,287 (still heavily dependent on the SUMR token price) with the amount of SUMR token holders decreasing by 12.

During the month of July, 73 locked SUMR positions were unstaked early, leading to their penalization and a subsequent transfer of 9,757,407.89 SUMR to the DAO treasury/timelock. The bulk of this came from a small number of very large lockers exiting in the final days of the month, ahead of the wind-down of the early-unstake penalty under [SIP3.20] Wind-down SUMR lock buckets and sunset the early-unstake penalty.

Protocol Metrics

Following the July 6 exploit, the protocol moved decisively to a withdrawal-only stance. The usual TVL-by-chain and asset-breakdown tables are paused for this recap: rather than tracking growth and yields, July’s work centered on restoring and simplifying withdrawals; offboarding legacy Arks, unpausing affected fleets, and neutralizing vaults into simple withdrawal-only ERC-4626 shells.

Users can withdraw (and stake/unstake) at summer.fi.

The July 6 Exploit & Aftermath

The defining event of the month was the exploit of the Ethereum USDC Lower Risk and USDC Higher Risk vaults on July 6. A full account of what happened, the vectors involved, and the curator’s perspective is documented in the Lazy Summer Protocol Exploit (July 6, 2026) BA Labs Risk Curator Retrospective.

In the aftermath:

  • @BlockAnalitica stepped down as risk curator for the Lazy Summer Protocol — announcement thread.
  • Labs Co. began winding down, prompting the DAO to plan an operational realignment for the transition period.
  • Governance shifted to a coordinated recovery and wind-down program, moving all vaults toward a neutral, withdrawal-only state.

Community Call #16 was dedicated entirely to the incident, an open review, community Q&A, and discussion of next steps: recap & discussion.

Governance in Focus

Given the volume of governance activity, the month’s SIPs and RFCs are grouped below by theme rather than listed individually. Onchain outcomes are consolidated in the Cactus (fka Tally) Votes section that follows.

1. Incident response & fund recovery

2. Offboarding legacy Arks & restoring withdrawals

3. Neutralizing vaults to withdrawal-only shells

4. Winding down rewards & staking

The final settlements of the DAO’s recurring incentive programs were processed this month, and the programs were formally sunset:

5. Treasury consolidation

6. Guardian module & governance parameters

7. Determining the future

Cactus (fka Tally) Votes

Governance execution moved to Cactus (formerly Tally), with an alternative Governance+ interface available at dao.summer.fi.

Distributions (June, voted in July). Notably, the first submissions of the June delegate and referral distributions did not reach quorum on July 8 (the first cycle under the newly raised 30% quorum ([SIP4.2])) and were resubmitted and passed on July 13:

Transparency & Operations

Transparency reporting continued throughout the transition:

  • Guardian Multisig Reporting expanded activity through the incident response, documented across update #5, #7, and #8.
  • Delegate Rewards Framework V2 Reporting update #4.
  • SUMR Liquidity Management on Base update #7.
  • Aerodrome Metagovernance update #8.
  • BA Labs Risk Curator Retrospective on the July 6 exploit full report.

The Path Forward

July marked the end of Lazy Summer as a growth-and-optimization protocol, at least for now, and the beginning of a deliberate, transparent wind-down toward a neutral, withdrawal-only state while the community decides what comes next.

Immediate priorities:

  • Withdrawals first. Complete the neutralization of all vaults into withdrawal-only shells and ensure every user can withdraw at summer.fi.
  • Consolidate the treasury and revoke unnecessary operational roles across the protocol.
  • Decide the future. The Determining the Future Direction and Operational Realignment RFCs are where the DAO’s long-term direction will be worked out. Your input there matters more than ever.

This will be the last monthly recap until that direction is settled. When there’s a clear path forward to report, the green blob will be back.

Get Involved:

To everyone who showed up this month; the @Recognized_Delegates, guardians, contributors, and community members who kept governance moving through a genuinely difficult stretch, and to the users affected by the exploit: THANK YOU! The priority now is doing right by users and deciding the future together, transparently.

See you on the Forum
