Overview
The Summer Improvement Proposal (SIP) framework is the formal process through which the Summer Community can propose, discuss, and vote on changes and improvements to the protocol. SIPs ensure that decisions are made transparently and democratically, allowing the community to guide the protocol’s future.
What is a SIP?
A Summer Improvement Proposal (SIP) is a structured proposal document outlining suggested changes, enhancements, or new features for the protocol. SIPs are community-driven and open to any member who wants to contribute to the protocol’s evolution. Each SIP follows a formal process, including community discussion, review, and voting stages.
Objectives of the SIP Process
The SIP process aims to:
-
Foster Transparency: Provide clear documentation for proposed changes, open to all community members.
-
Encourage Community Participation: Enable token holders to contribute their insights and vote on important decisions.
-
Ensure Effective Decision-Making: Standardize the proposal process, so only thoroughly considered proposals are implemented.
-
Promote Protocol Integrity: Allow only well-defined proposals that meet the necessary requirements to be executed, maintaining protocol security and reliability.
SIP Lifecycle
-
Idea Submission: Community members post initial ideas in the Summer Forum for feedback.
-
SIP Submission: The proposal is submitted as an official SIP for an on-chain vote.
-
On-Chain Voting and Execution: Proposals that meet the quorum and pass with majority support are queued for execution.
The DAO will be able to later modify this lifecycle as needed.
SIP Requirements
Each SIP should include:
• Title: A concise proposal name.
• Summary: Brief description of the proposal.
• Motivation: Why the proposal is needed and its potential impact.
• Specifications: Detailed technical information, including code changes if applicable.
