Hey all, your friendly [**green blob**](https://x.com/jensei_) back again, this time with a heavier wrap-up than usual. July was, without question, the most consequential month in the Lazy Summer DAO’s history. On **July 6** , two Ethereum USDC vaults (Lower Risk and Higher Risk) were exploited. In the weeks that followed, BA Labs published a risk-curator retrospective and stepped down as risk curator, Summer Labs began winding down, and governance pivoted almost entirely away from growth and optimization toward **incident response, fund recovery, and an orderly move to a withdrawal-only protocol**. As a result, this is the **last monthly governance recap for now**. It covers July and the first week of August, and the DAO will resume regular recaps once the community has settled the protocol’s long-term direction (see _The Path Forward_ below). Below is the full recap. The Lazy Summer DAO treasury decreased by **$201,287** (still heavily dependent on the SUMR token price) with the amount of SUMR token holders decreasing by **12**. During the month of July, **73 locked SUMR positions** were [unstaked](https://basescan.org/advanced-filter?fadd=0x447bf9d1485abdc4c1778025dfdfbe8b894c3796&tadd=0x447bf9d1485abdc4c1778025dfdfbe8b894c3796&tkn=0x194f360d130f2393a5e9f3117a6a1b78abea1624&mtd=0x31201922~Unstake+Lockup) early, leading to their penalization and a subsequent transfer of **9,757,407.89 SUMR** to the DAO treasury/timelock. The bulk of this came from a small number of very large lockers exiting in the final days of the month, ahead of the wind-down of the early-unstake penalty under [[SIP3.20] Wind-down SUMR lock buckets and sunset the early-unstake penalty](https://forum.summer.fi/t/sip3-20-wind-down-sumr-lock-buckets-and-sunset-the-early-unstake-penalty/903). * * * ### **Protocol Metrics** Following the July 6 exploit, the protocol moved decisively to a **withdrawal-only stance**. The usual TVL-by-chain and asset-breakdown tables are paused for this recap: rather than tracking growth and yields, July’s work centered on restoring and simplifying withdrawals; offboarding legacy Arks, unpausing affected fleets, and neutralizing vaults into simple withdrawal-only ERC-4626 shells. Users can withdraw (and stake/unstake) at **[summer.fi](https://summer.fi)**. * * * ## The July 6 Exploit & Aftermath The defining event of the month was the exploit of the Ethereum **USDC Lower Risk** and **USDC Higher Risk** vaults on July 6. Neutralizing vaults to withdrawal-only shells - **[[SIP2.60] Remove all remaining Arks and neutralize Fleets](https://forum.summer.fi/t/sip2-60-remove-all-remaining-arks-and-neutralize-fleets/902)** Completes the wind-down by removing all remaining Arks across every fleet, leaving each vault as a buffer-only, withdrawal-only ERC-4626 shell.
